Rainbow Maternity Session {Photographer in Cumming GA}
This maternity session is a joyful but bittersweet one. My dear sister has been through a trial that many other mothers have sorrowfully endured. But after facing the storm, once the misery has cleared, God has gracefully gifted a ray of hope that creates something beautiful to be marveled at. The sweet little boy that she awaits now is what is known as a rainbow baby; a baby after a loss. There are a number of creative ideas for a rainbow maternity session and I had made the floral sash ahead of time to tie in a rainbow theme subtly. This verse from the Bible comes to my mind as I was preparing for my sister’s maternity session.
Since she lives in North Carolina and I in north Atlanta, GA, we do not see each other but a few times a year. This August, The Great American Eclipse just so happened to be passing over my parent’s house in South Carolina and my entire family got together for the special event. My twin sister, being 32 weeks pregnant, was at the ideal time for maternity pictures so we snuck out for a quick session. We were literally driving along the road when I spotted this wonderful dimensional space with the sun glowing through right off the highway! It was just off an exit ramp onto the highway behind a run down car wash! I just love the way the glowing sun came through the trees here; it has so much warmth. I thought it complimented this rainbow maternity session perfectly. I’ve included a Google view of the location just so you can see, but we were just behind the building near the edge of that treeline by the white fence. This Google Map view of the road is of course not from the same day, but you get an idea of the scene! I do a lot of location scouting for maternity sessions and family sessions in Cumming, GA by driving around just like I did on this day when I was out with my sister. Tough typically I look for perfect Atlanta photography session locations with my sons by exploring parks in Forsyth, Fulton, and Cobb counties throughout the year. It’s amazing how perfect photo locations can be found in the most unexpected places!
The silhouette maternity picture below is at another location since I wanted to include a view of Lake Keowee in her maternity portraits. This cove on the lake is where we spent many summers in our childhood waterskiing, so I thought that would be a fun, meaningful way to incorporate a special place. By the time we pulled off at this location just outside my parents neighborhood, most of the light was already gone. We climbed up the levy hillside and I decided to capture this portrait as a silhouette. I love how the sunset displayed an array of colors from red to purple; not quite a rainbow, but close!
