Summer Sunset Family Session at Garrard Landing {Cobb County Family Photographer}

If you’re searching for good locations for family pictures in the Atlanta area, Garrard Landing is often at the top of the list for Atlanta photographers. That being said, it can get quite busy with photographers holding mini sessions, especially around the fall for holiday mini sessions. Garrard Landing located in south Alpharetta not far from the north side of the perimeter is a great location due to the open fields, winding paths, layers of grasses and trees as well as a little stream and covered bridge. It is no wonder that it is a popular photo session location, but there are also a number of other great family picture locations throughout the metro Atlanta area, so if crowds are not ideal for you, let me know and we’ll find a location that is a little more off the beaten path but still offers the great aspects of Garrard Landing.

I first met this sweet family at their Cobb County home to plan and design their portrait session. I love the opportunity to meet with families before sessions in their home because it allows me to gather ideas for stying their session, make wardrobe and color palette recommendations based on how they decorate their home as well as share artwork samples to see what portrait products might be the best fit for displaying their family pictures in their home. They were very keen on getting a variety of portraits and were drawn to the beautiful heirloom leather album I offer.

We met at Garrard Landing for what turned out to be an absolutely beautiful June evening sunset session. I typically aim to begin all my outdoor family photo sessions about an hour before sunset, so in June we end up scheduling around 7:30 pm. Brother and Sister were so much fun and I was able to capture some really beautiful sibling moments between the two of them! As always, I aim to get a good mix of both candid and posed camera-aware portraits. We wrapped up the evening with some fun bubbles for the kids to pop—which always make a great bonus for the little ones.

At their ordering appointment a week or so after their session, we met at my home studio where they were able to see the images from their family portrait session projected large onto the wall. We looked through their family photos together and helped narrow them down to their favorites for the album. Mom wanted a particular quote for customizing the front cover, which I designed for her. We customized the leather of the album to coordinate with both their session and the colors in their home…which is just gorgeous! The pigments in the album portraits will be preserved for decades to come as they are made of materials that do not deteriorate over time. The prints are nestled into mats, creating a beautiful, classic album style. I do have album samples to bring along to portrait consultations, so you’ll have the opportunity to flip through the two styles I offer and see what customizations you have available to personalize your own family’s album.
